Disclaimer: This post is very random. You've been warned 😆😆😆
Today is such a lovely day. It has been for two consecutive days that we were greeted, "Selamat pagi, Apa khabar?" by the principal on our way to school. He is such a lovely man. He even sweeps the school compound, especially the part where the ginkgo biloba fruits (they stink by the way😓😓) fell of its trees. The kids started to open up to us. Most of them still greeted us as "Hello/Hi Malaysia" while some of them called us with our names (Dean/Zaki).
Speaking of being greeted by the kids, yesterday, Zaki and I got the permission to go out during lunch to settle about our online banking (which is verrrrrry complicated unlike our online/internet banking), the Grade5/6 pupils waved goodbye to us while saying "You're handsome". As I responded, "Oh, thank you. You're handsome too". He was sooooo excited and happy to hear that while his friends asked him what did I mean by that. So, the moral value of the story here is, don't be too stingy in giving compliments. You never know that it might turn up someone's day 😆😆😆
I also noticed that I am started to have fangirls. Hahaha. Narcissistic much? 😹😹 Yesterday, we went to observe the Grade 2 classes. And I've met with one of the girl before during lunch last week. She came to talk to me in English. And as usual, I am very drawn and amazed with kids who can converse in English very well especially here in Korea, English is only taught when they're in Grade 3. So, the moment I stepped into the class, the girl was so happy to see me. But, she didn't show much excitement, perhaps the teacher already warned them not to disturb us. However, during the 10 minutes intermission, the girl kept following me around. Checking out my nametag 😅while reading it. If it's in Malaysia, I would have definitely asked why but since I am not quite sure how to react here, I simply asked her another question instead, "Your English is very good. Where did you learn it?" "I go to English Academy every day. Initially, I planned to ask her name but I already did last time and she might say, "Have you forgotten my name?, so I passed that question. That girl pretty much reminded me of my kids back in Malaysia. I wonder how they are doing without me around. Perhaps they're having so much fun by themselves! By the way, back to that girl, I still don't know why she followed me around yesterday😅😅😅😅😅 I'm going to leave it as it is ~ such a mystery.
Nutritionist.
Yes, the school has a nutritionist. Her role is to ensure that the meal provided daily benefits the kids and the teachers alike. So, two days ago, I had my very first encounter with her. Since I had to work on something, I came down for lunch a little bit late compared to Wak Jek. As she saw me queueing for the food, the nutritionist lady approached me and asked, "I heard that you don't eat pork. So sorry but we have pork in our menu today". See, even though they don't prepare special meal for us they are aware of what we can and can't eat. So, I personally think that this school is quite prepared to have us here. They even rearrange our timetable on Friday so that we can perform Friday prayer. They might not give us the best but they try their very best to make our stay here a wonderful one. And for that, I am very grateful. Thank you APCEIU too for prepping them with the right information prior to having us.
Oh yeah, from time to time, the 6th graders are asked to do morning campaign on certain issues especially bullying. The campaign wasn't grant as I expected but it is enough as a reminder to the pupils. As the kids are coming to school, they will see these 6th graders lining by the school entrance while chanting phrases like "stop bullying" or "bullying is bad". Although, it is very simple but the message is well conveyed and they did it all by themselves (with little help by their homeroom teachers).
