Sadly my partner and I, had to stay at school since we had an observation with the APCEIU officer. Regardless, it was a great lesson. We started off with a quick lesson on 'Tepuk Terima Kasih' and then we asked them to share their favourite Korean dishes. Once they seemed ready for the lesson, we tested their prior knowledge on Malaysian dishes by asking them to match the names of the dishes with the correct pictures. As expected, none of them managed to match correctly, which means there's room for learning 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
We left the pictures undiscussed and straight away went showing them a series of famous Malaysian cuisine. We, first let out the 'big bad' a.k.a durian. Since we were very steadfast on getting them to experience the culture, we let then sniff into a packet of Durian flavoured popcorn (which we brought all the way from Malaysia) and durian flavoured dodol. And guess what! Their reaction was priceless! We left them with the lingering smell and continued on with the introduction to Nasi Lemak, Laksa, Lemang, Roti Canai, Satay and finally ketupat.
We saved Ketupat for last because our post activity was on simple ketupat weaving activity. Each of them received a ketupat template and they had to weave the readily-cut ribbons inside the template. As we wanted to integrate counting numbers in Malay, I had them to repear after me while counting the number of ribbon strips.
Honesty, I feel very satisfied with the lesson since we got to do so much within 40minutes time frame. Besides that, our principal seemed to be interested with our lesson as well. He also asked us to let him sniff the popcorn packet Good job, partner Mohd Zaki Ghazali for wonderful lesson plan 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
P/s: I had to remove my tanjak half way of the lesson because I started to feel dizzy 😅😅😅
By the way, we will have our very first school field trip soon with the fifth grader. So, stay tune 😬😬
