Continuation from yesterday's post, Sahwa's school festival was held today from 09:30a.m. until 12:30p.m. (local time) today. The school field was filled with parents' cars! Not only that, something that was quite interesting to me was when parents were asked to put on shoes cover before entering the school compound. Such a rare sight! The gym decoration was rather minimal yet meaningful. Equipped with spotlights, and hanging microphones! The performances were recorded for the school's keepsake and references. Sadly, the fifth and sixth graders didn't get the chance to join the others at the gym because they had to perform in their own classes. Either way, the impact was just as phenomenal! The homeroom teachers really went all out in training the kids as well as decorating the classes (for the 5th and 6th graders). Leaflets on the tentative was either left on the chairs or in front of the class' doors.
Honestly, everything seemed very smooth and well thought. The kids performing in the gym were called by classes, so they were not wasting their time waiting in the gym. Hence, giving more space to the audiences (parents).
By the way, before the festival started, the school's principal introduced all four of us, the foreign teachers at the school (2 Malaysian, 1 Chinese from China teaching Mandarin and 1 American lady teaching English). I also took the job as handing out the shoes cover at the entrance while greeting them with simple "Selamat Pagi". One of the parents were very excited that he asked the other teacher where I am from :)
Most of all, having to watch all of these kids performed on stage made me realise how much I love teaching younger kids. I even had my proud 'dad' moment for awhile there. I do hope that one day, I could try to implement the idea of school concert day at my school. Well, that's something that I should work on once I get back. :)
Oh yeah, remember last time, when I said that we are not allowed to post any pictures or videos of the kids online? Apparently, it's applicable not only to us, teachers but also to the parents. This was evident from the notice which my partner had already Google translated. #komtep2019 and yeah, that's our GB, wearing my tanjak 😅😅
